Politics State Ethics Watchdog Takes No Action Against GOP Money Guy

The so-called watchdog of Tennessee?s election campaign finance system wagged its tail like a puppy today at Andrew Miller, the GOP money man and anti-Muslim zealot who stood accused of brazenly busting contribution limits.Miller personally contributed the maximum amount to eight legislative candidates, then set up his misnamed Truth Matters PAC, gave it $71,000 and dumped some more cash into the same campaigns. What did the Registry of Election Finance do about it? Absolutely nothing.
The Registry bought Miller?s explanation that he actually intended to collect cash from other contributors to Truth Matters, so it would have been their money that went to those legislative campaigns, not his. But he just hadn?t gotten around to accepting those pledges yet. As Tom Humphrey reports:
"If I'm guilty of anything, it's getting in a rush," said Miller, referring to his failure to wait until others contributed to the PAC before sending PAC donations to candidates he supported.
And with that, the Registry voted 4-2 to impose no penalties against Miller and helped him make a mockery of state ethics law.
