October finally brings cooler weather to Phoenix, well? at least at night. This morning it was 70 degrees in my barn at 6AM. Behind the mountains the sun was still the mere hint of dawn. A month ago it was a race to finish barn chores by 5:45 or suffer beneath the unbearable effects of the sun by 6AM.
The horses are hairin? up, the hens are molting, and the brooder is set up and ready to welcome new baby chicks. The pine trees have shed their needles and are once again a brilliant green. Their pine cones gathered and placed in a basket waiting to become our Thanksgiving table centerpiece. Flowers will bloom and cacti come alive with colorful blossoms. As the summer grass begins it?s dormancy, the winter seedlings begin to sprout.
The winter visitors are arriving, filling our stores and resorts, and we all welcome the many fall festivities planned in their honor. With the holidays just around the corner, blue skies and perfect weather, it?s paradise in Phoenix ? for the next five months.
